Wind coming over the dam means flat water, but usually gusty. Today the
gusts seemed much longer so with the right size sail you could be well
powered up most of the time. Looked to be very little wind when we arrived
but it was deceptive and there was plenty for 6.7m on the Techno. Excellent
for gybe practice on the flat water and made some progress experimenting to
improve windy gybes.
The wind was building though and changed down to 5.3 and 90 litres. Water
still quite flat so could really fly along - had some fantastic blasts
right across the lake. Big difference gybing with the smaller sail - the
apparent wind keeps the 6.7 sheeted in, but it is easy to sheet out too
soon with the 5.3. Again made some progress by trying different things -
had some big crashes, but also made a lot of well powered gybes.
Water really cold, hopefully should soon warm up with the longer days and
sun higher in the sky. Wind gauge was showing 50 mph for a while and 5.3 a
bit much at times.
Overall a brilliant session with flat out blasting and lots of gybes.
